Instead, the encoder includes circuitry whichinhibits the operation of the random pulse generator to the extent necessary toforce a particular switching signal mode for a predetermined average time interval. For instance, assuming thatit is desired to continue to operate for a while with a rectangular switchingsignal of the 4C modeas in FIG. 2, it is necessary to reset the seven pulse counter at the mode transition point between time slots 16 and 17. In order for this to occur, the rectangularswitching signal must transition from a C statein time slot 16 to aB state in time slot 17 to obtain a C to B transition.
Since the pulsegenerator is normally ompletely random,the only way to insure this transition is to inhibit the generator fromproducing certain output pulses which would not force the requiredtransition.
